Well, kiddo, we gotta go over some things first.
First, I hope you have read this post before coming across this. Haven't yet? Go read it. Then come back.
The Rundown
All right, so now you've read it. You know that Oculi are genetically altered humans to reach what most would perceive as "perfection". Unfortunately Helix Industries weren't too flawless with their brainwashing techniques, and the Oculi, being intelligent, began to question things. That's why, when the laboratory was destroyed, they didn't go running back to the scientists crying for their mommies.
Though the Oculi were engineered to be perfect, they all still contain flaws, and since the explosion are starting to discover their individuality. There, that gives you something to work with other than a perfect blob. So don't let the nickname "perfect" deceive you.
Features
Onto some other details; the Oculi have the ability to see in the dark. This feature is enabled by the Oculi eyes glowing once not enough light reaches their pupils. The glow is fairly faint, but still noticable since humans eyes tend to not glow. The glow's colour is in accordance to eye colour (except brown)
- Blue eyes = Blue glow
- Green eyes = Green glow
- Brown eyes = Yellow glow
Unfortunately, the "eye-glow test" is what humans use most commonly to identify Oculi. Other ways of identification are sight alone (Oculi are usually tall, thin, and have no "imperfections), but this is more assumption than fact, so humans usually back it up with the eye-glow test as well. They also check for belly buttons, since Oculi don't have them (test tube babies, y'know), but birth from the test tube isn't specific to Oculi, so again, it is reinforced by the EGT.
Other than the glowing eyes, Oculi are almost identical to humans. They are, essentially, humans, anyway. Just genetically modified. As said before, they tend to be tall, thin (some, if they were meant to be a power force, are very muscular. This is up to you), beautiful/handsome; without any physical flaws.
The Up-Bringing
Though the Oculi were Helix's (and the government's) pride and joy, they were in some cases treated almost like cattle. Occuli were not given names; each were numbered. The numbers go up to three digits (000), as the Oculi never breached the thousands. This means, if you make an Oculi, you have to give them a number. However; Oculi were educated and intelligent, and they knew calling each other numbers was degrading and ridiculous. Many of them created their own names, which you are welcome to do, also. But a numbered name is required.
Here's a way to come up with a number.
Instead of picking three (which, I guess, you can do too, but where's the fun?), do this:
1. Take the first line of lyrics from a song you like, throw them in the word count and see what number that is.
2. Grab a book, newspaper, magazine... anything that has words on it, and put the second sentence in the word count. If there is no second sentence, use the first. If there is no first, find something with a sentence.
3. Finally, if you still need a number since the one before can produce a two-digit, you can do two things--pick a random number, or click a random member in the site, see how many posts they've made, and use that number. And BAM, you've got your Oculi's number!
Getting back to the topic... Oculi were educated in almost all subjects. Mostly academic things, like Math and the Sciences, but they also learned a lot of History (particularly the 20th century and the World Wars--Oh but WAIT, how can there be the World Wars in this alternate universe? It's parallel. So the things in the past for us happened in the past for them.), along with some writing. There was a lot of study on warfare and the use of weapons, as the Oculi were meant to be an army.
The Situation Now
Once the Oculi were freed from Helix/Ind, many at first tried to join the humans, knowing the war was what they were meant to aid in. Unforunately the humans didn't take too kindly to them. This was due to several factors: Pride--the humans felt it a little insulting that they should just be replaced with these freaks; Jealousy--not much to explain about this; Hatred--the land had been ravaged by war, while the Oculi were cooped up in their safe labs, etc. Of course, not all the humans disliked the Oculi--some support them and want their help. It's the ones that don't which caused the Oculi to avoid the humans, because an encounter could end in death.
Though, that being said, not all the Oculi are for the humans, either. Some believe themselves superior to the humans and think they should be annihilated so that the Oculi can rule.
On top of this, survivors of Helix/Ind along with people hired by the government are hunting for the Oculi to try and "round 'em up" again. These guys will do whatever it takes to capture the Oculi. They are meant to capture the Oculi alive, but the state of which is up for debate...
So--now the rest of the tale is up to you. I've given you the info. You're creative. It's time you harness this and create a character to shape the future of this war torn world. Will you heal it or hinder? Ah. That is the beauty of writing.
I wish you luck!
